End Citizens United wants to continue its mission in 2018 that it started in March 2015. The mission is to rid the rigged political system of politicians who are not adhering to their ethical responsibilities of being transparent to the taxpayers. Their mission to have more transparency and eliminate special interest groups within the political process is paramount in the grass roots movement with voters throughout the country.
While, the agenda to overturn the 2010 U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling (Citizens United v. F.E.C.) that triggered the grass roots effort is still right on track, End Citizens United has escalated its efforts to hold elected officials to the high standard of accountability that they promised in 2015. Politicians are still not listening to the American voters.
End Citizens United has taken its usual position with those politicians who continue to disregard the voters and receive money through mega-donors. Their constituents deserve to be heard and their interest should be top priority among their elected leaders. The political action committee (PAC) has made it clear that only elected officials who support campaign finance reform should be elected.
In December, End Citizens United announced its endorsement of Democrat Jay Hulings for the 23rd Congressional district in Texas. He is a firm advocate for campaign finance reform and believes that transparency is the prerequisite to rid the corruption that has perplexed Washington for too long. As a former federal prosecutor, Hulings has fought corruption. His campaign against incumbent Will Hurd will be a way for him to exercise a tough stand on the issue. Hurd is among the “Big Money 20” republicans that End Citizens United wants unseated in 2018. “We need Jay in Washington to fight back against politicians and their greedy mega-donors who advance their own interests at the expense of Texas families,” stated Tiffany Muller president of End Citizens United.
Together, with three million supporters, End Citizens United has positioned a grass roots movement that will end up having the biggest effect on the political process in U.S. history. With a continued forward direction to bring its mission forward to make the political system something that American’s are willing to trust and elect politicians with the integrity to earn that trust, End Citizens United is well-positioned for success in 2018.
End Citizens United has raised the money needed so far into the 2018 re-election cycle. With $10 million already contributed to the PAC and $35 million planned, the resources are available for any action plan needed to go against incumbents who are still not listening to their constituency; most of whom are unwilling to accept the continued hand shaking of deals going on in Washington any longer. Voters want a change in 2018 and End Citizens United plans to delive.
