The Chainsmokers have become a name known by most everyone, only to be outdone in memory by their timeless tracks. With such a chaotic schedule in the studio and while fulfilling their Las Vegas residency, finding the right balance of the most important aspects of life has taken some trial and error to get right. Now it seems, they have worked out the kinks and established a winning combination of personal relationships, professional musician collaborations, and life on tour. Alex Pall and Drew Taggart recently went into depth about how they accomplished this monumental feat that sometimes crushed other celebrities.
The first thing they speak of is finding the right balance between home life and the studio. Taggart states that although he reserves a full-sized studio for more professional chores he has to carry out, he still dedicates a small part of his home to be a creative outlet for when ideas come to mind. This allows them to enter into the studio with a few ideas beforehand, in the event of having to begin a new collaboration with other artists.
Pall went into the difficulties of balancing personal relationships and fame. He states that often times it is next to impossible to meet someone that truly understands the need for separation of the high life and actual realities that come with them, such as having to leave for six weeks on a world tour. Luckily, he has been with his current girlfriend for a couple years now and says they share many similarities that allow for reducing the stresses that come along with life in the public eye.
The Chainsmokers have struck gold in more way than monetarily, although having recently made the Forbes 100 Top Paid DJ’s List of 2018. Making it to number 31 is no small feat either, but having listened to this duo speak about how the good life has affected them, it’s apparent that they have not let the fame and money get the best of them. Their story is only gaining momentum and taking the duo into uncharted territory.
The famous music duo artist who make The Chainsmokers recently released their new single “Closer” which is a collaboration with another celebrity Halsey. The two artists have released other songs including “Don’t Let me Down” and “Roses”. The two songs among others which are a radio hits are made by Alex Pall, and Andrew Taggart. It is a common thing for artists to make songs on their own, but it is different for Pall and Andrew who mostly rely on the vocalist, as well as music writers to make their music. The pair is DJs and they have worked hard to personalize their dance music and make a name for themselves in the music industry rather than just being DJ’s.
Unlike other DJs like deadmau5 who have always worked behind the booths, Taggart and Pall are working towards coming out and becoming popular among the people. Alex Pall grew up loving being a Dj and after school, he began Djing in New York City and to him it was just a side job, but he was passionate about. While he was in New York City, Pall felt it was scary to do something like Djing in the big city that felt more fun than just a job. At one point when attending an art gallery, he found out that dance music was becoming popular and he wanted to give it a try. Pall was still working with their current manager when they met with Andrew Taggart. Pall had to quit his job and Taggart had to move to Maine for them to start working together.
Before Andrew met Alex, he was still in college and electronic music was his passion. In College, Drew loved putting on v-necks and listening to dance music a character that his friends to make fun of him. Andrew loved music and he began making as well as producing music. During the time there were DJs from college who were getting signed up, Andrew produced a couple of songs and put them on SoundCloud and he also had an opportunity to play in different shows. The two contemporary DJs knew they are going to work together because they have the same goal.
The Chainsmokers are an award winning duo who produce dance and EDM music. In the last 4 years, The Chainsmokers have been recognized with awards and seen true mainstream success. Something that most people do not know about The Chainsmokers is that they were heavily inspired by the late DJ Avicii.
DJ Avicii is a Swedish DJ whose real name is Tim Bergling. Avicii was influenced by Daft Punk, Swedish House Mafia, and other EDM and house groups. Avicii’s legacy consists of two studio albums and two concert tours. Avicii was nominated for awards by the International Dance Music Awards, the iHeartRadio Music Awards, the Echo Music Awards, and the Billboard Music Awards, taking home several of his nominations.
Earlier in May of 2018, The Chainsmokers participated in an honorary ceremony for Avicii at the Billboard Music Awards. The Chainsmokers were joined by Halsey, who appears on “Closer” by The Chainsmokers. The honors took place just before Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, who make up the duo of The Chainsmokers awarded Luis Fonsi the Top Hot 100 Song of 2018 award.
“Everyone who worked with [Avicii] would say that he was such a joy and that makes this tragedy all the more painful,” said Halsey on stage. “It’s a reminder to all of us to be there and support and love our friends and family members.”
The Chainsmokers also received an award at the recent ceremony, taking home the trophy for Top Dance/Electronic act. “We want to dedicate this award to Avicii,” said Andrew Taggart after accepting the award. “He is someone who made us believe that this is something we could do with our lives.”
Avicii passed away on April 20th at the young age of 28. The artist has music that is unreleased, and the president of Geffen Records has said that Avicii’s fans may one day be able to hear the unreleased music.
Kelly Clarkson was also in attendance at the awards.
