Sujit Choudhry, the I. Michael Heyman Professor of Law at the prestigious University of California, Burkley gained international recognition due to his authority on comparative constitution law and politicking. He is also the Center for Constitutional Transactions’ director.
When asked in a CEOCFO interview what the idea behind CCT was, Choudhry said it was to engender and activate knowledge in constitutional support and to lead international networking of experts to produce evidence-based policies. He remarks that when starting the organization, he already had a lot of experience in aiding upcoming democracies to write new or amend existing constitutions. However, Choudhry stated that there was an information gap that was still pending, and that’s what he wanted to fill. For the full interview, click on ceocfointerviews.com.

Choudhry says it is imperative to listen and respond to people on the ground. According to Choudhry, people on the ground are endowed with knowledge of what is going on in certain demographics. Accordingly, should you want to understand the environment better, you would need to blend with them and see matters from their viewpoints. He also talks about how he learned to change his approach from perfection to letting issues unfold, which though may bring setbacks, is a great opportunity to learn and reinvent oneself. He closes the interview by stating that if he was granted unlimited time and resources, he would have in place an organization that manages and hosts important and constitution-based case laws from around the globe. He also believes that his biggest achievement is bringing together practitioners and scholars from all over world to create global knowledge networks. He adds that they are soon to finish three large thematic and collaborative research projects while patterning with Territorial Cleavages in Constitution Transactions, an arm under the Democracy and Electoral Assistance body.
