Sujit Choudhry: An Expert in Comparative Constitutional Law

Sujit Choudry is an established expert in the comparative law. Over the years, he has helped countries make constitutional transitions. As an expert, Sujit has worked with different countries including Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and South Africa.

Comparative Law is an academic discipline that studies the legal systems and their similarities and differences. It studies Canon, Civil, Common, Chinese, Jewish, Socialist, Islamic, and Hindu laws.

The purpose of the academic discipline is to attain a deeper understanding of the legal systems. Comparative Law is different from all the other law disciplines, but it helps to inform all the other areas. Today, Comparative Law has helped organizations like United Nations to understand the laws in the different countries.

The importance of Comparative Law has increased. Today, many law professionals have turned to information provided to make informed decisions on the constitution.

Sujit obtained a Bachelor of Arts, Law from the University of Oxford. He also attended the University of Toronto and obtained his LL.B and LL.M from Harvard Law School.

Sujit Choudhry started his law career in 1996 as a Law Clerk of the Supreme Court. His academic career began in 1999 when he joined the University of Toronto as an Assistant Professor. Sujit later served as the Associate Dean of the University of Toronto. He is currently the I.Michael Heyman Professor of Law.

In 2012, Sujit founded the Center of Constitutional Transitions. He serves as the Director of the organization. The organization generates knowledge of constitutional building. With the organization, Sujit has partnered with the Multilateral Organizations, NGOs, and Universities

As a professor, Choudhry has participated in research on a broad number of issues including federalism, constitutional design, and decentralization.

In 2010, Sujit was one of the candidates who received the Trudeau Fellowship. He has served as a member of the Toronto Advisory Panel.

Sujit is an author, and he has written and published different books, articles, book chapters, reports and working papers. He is an editor and edited various collections. Choudhry is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Society of Public Law. He is also a member of the Board of Editors of International Journal of Constitutional law.
