In December of 2017 Robert Mueller was threatened to be fired for his investigation into allegations that President Trump received aid from the Russians to win his election. When this happened, former Attorney General Eric Holder stepped up to defend him. He posted a tweet that encouraged people to peacefully protest this action. Choudhry stated that the tweet was important because it was grounded in constitutional protocol.

According to Sujit Choudhry, when this type of situation arises, the American people must figure out if an elected leader or representative have abused their power. He went on to explain how leaders must behave in the right way. If not, they should be held accountable. Choudhry further states that the tweet and the situation could deemed as evidence of the failure of democracy.

He also analyzed how leaders can use constitutional legal mandates to their own advantage. They can use them to gain more time in office or accomplish some type of agenda while in office. He even provides some insight to authoritarian and power hungry individuals who knows how to work through America’s governmental and political system to abuse democracy.

Sujit Choudhry perspective on these issues and many more like them makes it clear that democracy is not a clean system. This form of government has its flaws. However, he wants the American people to know that the democratic process still works. He knows that the problems that the challenges that democracy faces will not undermine its effectiveness and that it still continues to faithfully serve the people.
