The Chainsmokers are an award winning duo who produce dance and EDM music. In the last 4 years, The Chainsmokers have been recognized with awards and seen true mainstream success. Something that most people do not know about The Chainsmokers is that they were heavily inspired by the late DJ Avicii.
DJ Avicii is a Swedish DJ whose real name is Tim Bergling. Avicii was influenced by Daft Punk, Swedish House Mafia, and other EDM and house groups. Avicii’s legacy consists of two studio albums and two concert tours. Avicii was nominated for awards by the International Dance Music Awards, the iHeartRadio Music Awards, the Echo Music Awards, and the Billboard Music Awards, taking home several of his nominations.
Earlier in May of 2018, The Chainsmokers participated in an honorary ceremony for Avicii at the Billboard Music Awards. The Chainsmokers were joined by Halsey, who appears on “Closer” by The Chainsmokers. The honors took place just before Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, who make up the duo of The Chainsmokers awarded Luis Fonsi the Top Hot 100 Song of 2018 award.
“Everyone who worked with [Avicii] would say that he was such a joy and that makes this tragedy all the more painful,” said Halsey on stage. “It’s a reminder to all of us to be there and support and love our friends and family members.”
The Chainsmokers also received an award at the recent ceremony, taking home the trophy for Top Dance/Electronic act. “We want to dedicate this award to Avicii,” said Andrew Taggart after accepting the award. “He is someone who made us believe that this is something we could do with our lives.”
Avicii passed away on April 20th at the young age of 28. The artist has music that is unreleased, and the president of Geffen Records has said that Avicii’s fans may one day be able to hear the unreleased music.
Kelly Clarkson was also in attendance at the awards.
